The study included 62 existing shopping centres totalling 3.2 million m2 GLA. All projects from 20,000 m2 with a minimum of 60 units were analysed, excluding those which are being extended and modernised. The research consisted of two parts – an evaluation by experts from Colliers International and the Polish Council of Shopping Centres using the adopted criteria and surveys conducted by IQS among parents living in selected agglomerations. Selected opinions of parents who took part in the survey have been quoted in the report.

In the most recent edition of How Active are Retailers Globally CBRE analysts found out that CEE countries register a wide range of attractiveness for international retailers – from a 15th position for Poland to 46th for Hungary.

Following this analysis, several questions were additionally raised:
- What is the profile of retailers entering the CEE market?
- Where do they open shop?
- Which is the difference by country profile?
- What retail footprint do they occupy?
- How attractive the retail market will be in the future?

In order to answer these questions CBRE made an in-depth research on which retailers entered the following countries in CEE: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia for 2014 and 2015. In additional we offer insight into other non-core CEE markets, meaning Croatia and Ukraine. CBRE analysts included all international brands, with at least one store opened during this time frame, regardless of location (high-street, shopping centres, shopping galleries), in the format of monobrand store. It excludes brands present solely in multibrand stores or department stores, as well as shops within airport retail. In total, we counted 185 such new brands, which in turn opened a total of 550 stores with plans for at least 75 more during the next 12 months (based on companies press releases’ statement).
